Some of our MUN activities will be affiliated with the American University in Cairo
Mission
The Model United Nation is an academic simulation of the United Nations that educates students in civics, effective communication, globalization and multilateral diplomacy. In fact, the MUN is one of the most challenging, interesting and rewarding activity programs schools offer. In the Model UN students take roles as diplomats and investigate international issues. They debate, deliberate, consult and develop peaceful solutions to world problems
Program Format
The NAC MUN holds weekly meetings for two hours after school from 3:00 pm- 4:45 pm Students previously enrolled in the program have attended several national MUN Conferences in other international schools and conferences abroad
Leadership and Responsibility
It is generally understood that there is high expectation put on the participants of the MUN and that MUN delegates grow into this responsibility and challenge developing a sense of leadership and an understanding of political, economic historic and humanitarian issues of the world. Further, statistics show that MUN participants achieve a higher GPA due to the skills acquired through the process. Moreover, the participation in MUN classes adds up to a student profile when applying to university, because it puts the students into the category of analytical and critical thinkers.
Pledge
During this conference I will do my best to find out as much as I can about the country or organization I am representing. I will converse with my peers from countries around the world in a civilized and respectful manner, despite multiparty and often heated debates that will make up discussions in the various committees, I will try to remain calm and composed. I will respect the fact that people hailing from different cultures have differing conceptions of the norms of social interaction, and will not only adapt to that but take it as an opportunity to enhance my inter-cultural IQ.
History
The Narmer American College MUN started in 2006-2007. Our chair and advisor was Sherif Abbas, a junior at this time. Sherif had experience through his active participation in the Arab League conferences at Cairo University. He took it upon himself to recruit and educate students on the practice and rules of an MUN club. Soon our NACMUN grew with more and more students getting enthusiastic to be delegates. Already in the first year NACMUN students participated in several MUN activities in different International Schools.
